Beijing, December 8, 2025 – SANY Group announced that the fourth-generation new energy autonomous heavy truck jointly developed by SANY Heavy Truck and Pony.ai is nearing mass production, with the first batch scheduled to be put into commercial operation next year. This progress will solidify China's global leadership in autonomous freight transportation and drive the digital, intelligent, and low-carbon transformation of the logistics industry.
The vehicle is equipped with a battery pack exceeding 400 kWh, capable of reducing carbon emissions by approximately 60 tons per vehicle annually. It adopts a fully redundant drive-by-wire chassis design, covering six core systems including steering and braking, and has passed rigorous testing, establishing an industry-leading safety protection system.
Based on test estimates of the "1+4" platooning model (one manned lead vehicle followed by four unmanned vehicles), this solution can reduce freight costs per kilometer by 29% and increase operating profit by 195%, offering a replicable efficiency-enhancing solution for scenarios such as smart ports.
SANY Heavy Truck stated that the fully redundant drive-by-wire chassis lays a hardware foundation for autonomous driving, and its collaboration with Pony.ai accelerates the large-scale application of intelligent logistics equipment. Since their partnership began in 2022, the two parties have achieved full-chain breakthroughs from technology validation to mass production readiness. |
