JCB Celebrates Sale of Its One-Millionth Backhoe Loader

JCB held a special ceremony at its North American headquarters in Savannah to mark the sale of its commemorative one-millionth backhoe loader. The 4CX model, previously displayed in the lobby, was officially handed over to Jason Koon, CEO of CSD Inc., in the presence of Chairman Lord Bamford and other executives.

Reflecting on the milestone, Bamford noted, “As the only person here who remembers our first backhoes in the 1950s, I never imagined we’d build a million of them. But at JCB, we always look forward — and I look forward to the next million.”

The machine represents over seven decades of innovation in a product introduced in 1953, now the world’s fourth most popular piece of construction equipment. Koon, a lifelong operator, called the delivery “both an honor and personal,” praising JCB’s reliability throughout his career.

JCB sold its first North American backhoe in 1964 and has since retailed over 225,000 machines across the continent. The company continues to expand its presence in the region, with a new $500 million Texas plant set to open in 2026.

This landmark sale highlights JCB’s ongoing commitment to the backhoe loader and coincides with the company’s upcoming 80th anniversary in 2025, celebrating decades of customer partnership and engineering progress.
